Arguing Over Health Insurance

My friend Christy is one of those people who has a perfect marriage. I swear that she and her husband don't fight about anything at all. They are reasonable people who always talk things through calmly and consider each other's feelings before speaking. So imagine how shocked I was when I showed up to meet her for lunch one day and could hear her and her husband screaming at each other inside.

Over lunch, Christy explained to me that they had been arguing about FL health insurance. She had gotten a new job and wanted to join the Florida small group health insurance plan offered by her work. He said that the health insurance west palm beach plan they already had was sufficient. They couldn't reach an agreement.

When she was telling me this story, I felt confused. I couldn't figure out exactly how it was that nothing else seemed to come between them and yet health insurance had caused this big problem in their lives. And then Christy said something that made it make sense - she said, "I just want to make sure that we're covered right if something happens". And that's when I realized that health issues were something that scared her. Since most fights are caused by fear, I understood where she was coming from.
