People who are involved in the business of marketing know that their job is to make a product or service seem like the best one that there is so that people will want to spend their money on it. Of course, the individual doing the marketing doesn't always believe that the product is best. While it's okay to market things that you only moderately believe in, you shouldn't market products that completely go against your personal preferences or beliefs. For example, let's say that you strongly believe that tanning lotion is an important product but that the best suntan lotions absolutely must include ingredients that help protect the skin from sun damage. If you were asked to market a line of tanning lotions that didn't include such ingredients, you might find yourself struggling to support the product.
If a product truly doesn't sit right with you for one reason or another, you should opt not to market it. You aren't going to feel right about yourself as a salesperson if you are regularly selling products that go against your own beliefs. It's a tricky line to walk because you may find that a lot of products are products that you don't love but don't really mind marketing. Just make sure that you check in with yourself from time to time to make sure your work isn't grating against your belief system.
