Trying to Parent Together

I have a really good friend who keeps running into problems with her husband over how to raise the kids. She's constantly upset because he doesn't want to do things the way that she wants to do them. To me, the problem seems to be that they don't know how to talk things like this through.

For example, he recently wanted to get a couple of kwa airsoft and echo1 airsoft guns to teach the kids how to play the game of airsoft. She was adamantly opposed to this because she doesn't think kids should be allowed to play games involving guns and shooting one another.

Instead of talking through their respective feelings about the issue, they just blew up at one another. She screamed that he was going to make their kids into killers. He yelled that she always overreacts to everything. They never really discussed the pros and cons of their arguments at all.

I know all of this because they're the kind of people who will fight like this even when friends and family are over for a visit. But I know better than to get involved. When she asked me to tell him that he was wrong, I simply said that I needed to get going!
