A loss of bladder control can occur in men and women of various ages, however, for women there are a few additional factors involved. Whenever there are issues with women that may require a surgical removal of the ovaries or the uterus there will also be a risk of injuring the muscles that cause urinary incontinence. The pelvic floor muscles can become weakened and bladder control can be sacrificed because of the lack of support within the surrounding muscles. Having a hysterectomy is one of the types of surgery where there could be a risk associated with the procedure.
There are many incontinence aids that are available for assisting these women to achieve bladder control and they are now made to take away the traditional diaper bulkiness of the past. There are reusable incontinence aids, as well as disposable inserts that can be used for intermittent urine leakage due to certain female surgeries and childbirth. Childbirth is another common cause for urinary incontinence that affects millions of women every year. The enlarged uterus during pregnancy along with the stress of delivering vaginally can often result in the type of bladder control problem that is called stress incontinence. This is the kind of urine leakage that some women experience when stress is placed on the bladder, such as when sneezing or coughing. Most products that are available today will allow an active and dignified lifestyle, in spite of having bladder control difficulty.
