Like many others, I've started doing all my shopping online. In fact, from the statistics I've heard about the increasing popularity of online shopping, it's amazing to me that the shopping malls have survived at all.
No matter what it is I'm shopping for — the vintage dolls I collect, or shoes and boots to feed my passion for style, or tack for my horse — I usually find what I want more easily, not to mention more cheaply, online. My theory is that because of the increased competition, online sellers are forced to offer better deals to their customers.
For instance, I buy dolls and doll clothes more frequently online than anything else. These are all vintage, used items, so eBay is the best place to get them. The huge amount of competition — sellers from all over the United States, and even sometimes from Canada or Europe — forces the prices down. You'll pay four, sometimes even five or six times more for the same items in local stores — and you won't get as good a selection.
The same goes for horse stuff, such as tack and care items. For instance, I can buy dewormer for my horse for far cheaper when I get an entire year's worth at a time online.
And of course, this goes for many other websites online. Some sites even offer free shipping, and of course you benefit by not having to drive around to find what you want at the store. Heck, you can even order some grocery items online!
Does anyone else feel, like I do, that the future of shopping most likely lies almost solely with the Internet?

I love malls. When I was younger, malls were a constant weekend stop. But yeah, nowadays, when I go to shop in malls, I always leave frustrated. Because most of the time, the stuff I want is not even available in stores.
The website has more selection than the physical stores. I just end up buying the stuff online.
Yes, I think it's going in that direction. I find myself shopping online more nowadays, not only because it's convenient but also because there are better deals online than in stores.
Great post!
I shop online but I still prefer shopping at a real store because of the interaction they provide. And besides even if there's a money-back guarantee, I still prefer inspecting the things I buy with my own two hands before I pay for it.
And there are still others like me. So I think while online shopping will continue to evolve, store shopping won't disappear.
I love to shop, online or in stores. I don't think one trumps the other, not yet. A lot of people still don't shop online and would rather buy their stuff in stores.
But we'll see.
I think online shopping will evolve and eventually eradicate physical stores.
I sure hope that doesn't happen though.
I don't think online shopping will take out physical stores. A lot of people are very traditional and would rather shop at stores.
Personally, I'm all for online shopping. It's so convenient.
